Why Graduated Compression Hosiery?

How do graduated compression hosiery and socks work?

Veins are responsible for pumping blood that has waste products and carbon dioxide back to the heart for purification. Blood flows around the body, but it has an uphill climb from the feet, due to gravity. The veins in our legs need help as we get older or become pregnant. When veins become weaker, blood can pool at the feet causing a wide variety of health risks (Deep Vein Thrombosis, Chronic Vein. Lymphema), pain (aching, tired, legs, painful swelling) and aesthetic issues (varicose veins, spider veins, swollen ankles, puffy legs, etc.).

Graduated Compression HosieryGraduated compression hosiery, stockings and socks provide are knit with varying levels of compression from the ankle to the upper thigh, helping to counteract the difficulties leg veins encounter pumping blood from the feet back up to the heart. Difficulties veins encounter may include counteracting gravity pull, weakened veins, or increased overall blood supply during pregnancy. Graduated compression stockings, hosiery, and socks are knitted with the highest level of compression in the ankle, with decreasing compression up to the thigh. Graduated compression hosiery exerts more pressure at the ankle to encourage blood flow up the leg. Graduated compression stockings, knee highs, and pantyhose effectively tone the legs veins to prevent swelling, knotting, and pooling of the blood in areas, as well as backward flow of blood in the vein, which can cause painful and unsightly varicose veins.

Compression in compression hosiery, stockings, and socks is measured in mmHg (millimeters of mercury), which is a unit of force. The higher the number, the greater the level of therapeutic compression at the ankle. Preventative compression hosiery offers a compression strength between 9 to 12 mmHg, which means that 12 mmHg is the compression strength at the ankle, 9 mmHg is at the knee, and 7 mmHg is the compression force at the thigh. Preventative compression hosiery is more than double the strength of regular support hosiery you can purchase at the store, and provides enough support to relieve daily leg fatigue and prevent varicose veins. Therapy compression hosiery, such as BodiAssets™ Therapy Line of Therapeutic Hosiery, offers firmer compression than the prevention lines. Therapy compression hosiery can range from 15 mmHg to 20 mmHg. 20 mmHg is level of compression at the ankle, 17 mmHg is at the knee, and 15 mmHg is the compression strength at the thigh. This type of hosiery can be used to prevent new varicose veins as well as reduce minor varicose veins. Additionally, therapeutic hosiery can relieve the leg fatigue, swelling in the ankles and legs, and achy legs.

With Prevention and Therapy types of compression hosiery, you will always feel an IMMEDIATE RELIEF in your legs. Your legs will feel more energized and lighter.
